Hey folks, this is Product Bites. The only newsletter helping you sound smart about AI and product management in 5 mins!

🤌 Till’s Picks

Reid Hoffmann (PayPal mafia, LinkedIn founder, podcast maniac and ex-board member OpenAI → successful guy) wrote a book in collaboration with GPT-4. I feel there’s this new genre of prompt porn emerging with lots of mediocre advice. This book is a great read to skim through for exploring some interesting GPT conversations eg. how to brainstorm creative video ideas as if you’re Mr. Beast or the future of mgmt. It’s for free.

This guy is building a business as human assistant of HustleGPT (that’s the lovely name he gave GPT-4). Plenty of copycats and people jumping in on the train. There’s no more fun than watching someone going wild on a side hustle. The idea is not groundbreaking (dropshipping) but let’s see where this goes.

💻 Tools

🔥 Collato - Do you sometimes struggle to find that nugget of gold, such as a customer quote or mockup, buried deep in a Miro board? Find distributed product information at a glance, across all your tools with Collato. I was discussing this exact problem last week with a fellow CPO. This is the future of product management, and I’ll be watching closely. 🔥

Logo Finder - Building has never been easier. Check out how to build a logo finder tool with Replit and GPT-4 in under 2 minutes.

Midjourney v5 - Time over crawling stockphotos for your next product presentation. Midjourney v5 has achieved photorealism (fair to say they’re independent not part of the OpenAI tribe). So with simple prompts you get life-like photos. (review).

🌆 Industry and other stuff

  • We don’t have to reinvent the wheel each week so time for a PM 101 classic: David Sacks breaks down the SaaS metrics that matter plus a free tool to visualize your startups data. CAC, LTV, CMGR you name it - all there. (link)

  • Great PMs never stop learning. All the video wisdom from Y combinator summarized and with links to videos, eg. this one from Sam Altman “Identify real trends in growing markets before investing in a new platform, like the iPhone, not fake trends like VR.” (link)

  • Microsoft has introduced Copilot to Office, and Google is doing the same for Google Suite. This represents a major shift that will quickly democratize AI productivity gains. Many small tools, such as AI slides, face the challenge of being replaced by Microsoft. Remember when everyone said that "Slack is better than MS Teams." However, MS Office's scale has proven to be a powerful factor, and it is already the suite being used by most enterprises. At this speed, the way we work will change significantly this year.

  • Hands-on advice at how deputy leveraged a product-led growth motion that led to 💰💰💰. See key points below. (link)

  • To all our friends who plan to outsource writing entirely to ChatGPT 👀: “Writing is the process by which you realize that you do not understand what you are talking about. Importantly, writing is also the process by which you figure it out” (link)

  • Pod 🔉: In this interview Laura Schaffer shares some useful PM career bites. My favorite message is to not rely on your manager to promote you (he might be gone tomorrow). Create value. Be known for something, eg. the colleague that has true customer insight. Then great opportunities will come to you. (link)
